Ski Equipment Rental here...

The package price includes transportation, lodging, lift tickets, 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners. Scouts are asked to bring money for one dinner en route and lunches on the mountain. On the way to Mammoth Friday night, the bus will stop at a fast food conglomerate, but it’s OK to bring a sack dinner instead. Ski/snowboard rentals are not included. If you need to rent equipment, it is recommended that you reserve early (information on rental options will be provided).
Scouts need money for lunches on the mountain (expensive!) and anything else they may want to buy. For Scouts who don't ski, lessons will be provided. Snowboard lessons MAY be provided, no adult lessons.

Everyone needs to have their own equipment that has been rented in advance, locally. There is no time for renting in Mammoth (and poor selection on a holiday weekend.) Sport Chalet in Marina del Rey is good, and they give a 10% discount to Troop 2. You can reserve the skiis or snowboard way in advance. Don't try to do it the night before. There will be nothing left. Pick up the skis/snowboard the night before or on the day of departure. Another choice is Summit Ski and Cycle 8419 Lincoln Blvd. in Westchester (about a mile south of Sport Chalet) 310-568-8357. They rent showboards as well as skis and equipment is new. Summit Ski and Cycle Rental Rates- Coming Soon. You may pick up skis anytime that week and pay the 2-day Rental Rate.
Snowboarders MUST wear wrist guards.

The package price is ____ for any Scout who has worked 20 hours or more in the Tree Lot this year. ____ for any Scout who worked between 10-20 hours, and ____ for all other Scouts. Parents (sorry, no siblings) are invited to join the trip for $$490. Click here to see how many hours your son has worked. To be safe, send about $75 in cash with your son to pay for 1 dinner 3 lunches and incidentals.

Parents are encouraged to help as instructors. Even if you don't ski well, you can help with the non-skiers.

Scouts must carry all their own equipment, so make sure your Scout is organized and knows what belongs to him. (Well, try anyway!) LABEL EVERYTHING. The bus is for Scouts. A few parents go on the bus if there is room, but most likely you will have to make your own transportation arrangements. If you drive, you will be refunded $50 for yourself and $50 for each passenger. Scouts and parents who book their trip through Troop 2 stay at MOTEL 6 MAMMOTH LAKES (see info below). The driving distance from Santa Monica to Motel 6 is 375 miles.

There are 4 boys or 2 adults to a room. Very little non-sleeping time is spent there after a long day of skiing.

FAQs
What should my son take with him?
See EQUIPMENT Page

Do the Scouts have to wear their uniform at all?
Yes, on the bus from Santa Monica to Mammoth Lakes and on the bus trip home. Not the shorts, just the uniform shirt, scarf, slide, and belt.

Do the Scouts have to wear a helmet?
They don't HAVE TO, but please encourage it. Helmets can be rented with skiis.

Do the skis stay with the boys at all times?
No. They stay in the storage compartment of the bus. They are passed out on the Mountain on Saturday morning, handed back in on Saturday night, and passed out again Sunday morning, etc.

Can I put my skis on the bus so they will be transported to the slopes for me?
Probably after the luggage has been removed from the bus on Friday night or any time after that.

Any Other Comments?
1) Lines for food can be very long at lunchtime. Don't wait until you're starving to stop for lunch, if your son is taking the Snow Sports Merit Badge, he must be ready to start at 1:30 P.M. each day.

2) BYOC, Bring YOUR OWN CHAINS - Brush and Scraper, too.
